Haileybury College in Keysborough

BMC Demolition was contracted to undertake the complex refurbishment of the Ian Cocks building at Haileybury College in Keysborough. This included partial demolition of outdated structures and careful dismantling of specific sections to allow for modernization, while preserving the architectural integrity of the school’s facilities. The scope encompassed internal strip-out works, removal of non-load-bearing walls, and preparing the site for further construction.

Project Scope:
Challenges:

The project required a meticulous approach due to the building’s active use and the need to ensure minimal disruption to the school’s day-to-day activities. Working within a live environment demanded tight coordination with the school administration, especially around scheduling to avoid impacting students and staff. Additionally, the building’s structural complexity and integration with adjacent facilities posed logistical challenges, necessitating careful planning and safety measures.

Our Approach:

We developed a phased plan, ensuring the most sensitive tasks, such as demolition of internal structures and waste removal, were done during off-peak school hours. Our team prioritised safety, deploying advanced protective barriers and dust suppression systems to minimise the impact on surrounding areas. Collaboration with architects and engineers allowed us to execute the demolition with precision, ensuring that key structural elements were preserved for the refurbishment phase. Throughout the project, we maintained open lines of communication with the school to ensure flexibility in adapting to their needs, ensuring the project stayed within budget and on schedule.

Outcome:

The refurbishment was completed efficiently, with the building prepared for the next phase of its upgrade. The project was delivered without delays, maintaining our high standards of safety, precision, and client satisfaction. The Ian Cocks building now stands ready for modern renovations, aligning with the evolving needs of Haileybury College.
